Important: Dutch Truck Toll System from 1 July 2026 – Action required

As of 1 July 2026, a truck toll system will be introduced in the Netherlands. This means that trucks will be charged per kilometre driven on a large part of the Dutch road network. This scheme replaces the Eurovignette and applies to both Dutch and foreign transport companies.

With the introduction of this toll, it becomes mandatory to use a so-called toll box (On Board Unit – OBU). It is essential that this is applied for, received, and correctly installed before 1 July 2026. In practice, we see that many transport companies start too late with such systems, resulting in waiting times, delivery issues, and vehicles that are (temporarily) unusable.

In addition, it is important to emphasize that the toll box must always be switched on whenever the vehicle is in the Netherlands, even when not actively driving on a toll road. The system automatically records where and when the vehicle is driving. A switched-off or malfunctioning toll box can immediately lead to fines.

Until the moment of implementation, the Eurovignette remains mandatory. Therefore, ensure that your vehicles have a valid Eurovignette until 1 July 2026. It will only expire once the new truck toll system comes into effect.

RDW Warning – This Is Not a voluntary preparation

Recently, the RDW (the Dutch authority for vehicle registration and compliance) visited Transport in Nood to further explain these developments. During this meeting, it was clearly stated that the upcoming period is crucial and that transport companies must take action.

The RDW explicitly asked us to inform and warn the market:
do not wait, but take action now to arrange a working toll box (OBU) and the corresponding contract in time.

The reason is simple:
Enforcement will start immediately on 1 July 2026.
This means that vehicles without a properly functioning and registered toll box will face fines, downtime, and operational issues from day one.

What you need to do now

  • Check whether your current system is suitable for the Netherlands
  • Choose a certified service provider
  • Apply for your toll box(es) in time
  • Ensure installation and activation before 1 July 2026

Delaying means taking risks.

Overview of approved toll box (OBU) providers

You can arrange this directly with the providers listed below.

Fuel card providers with their own fuel network

Service providers without their own Fuel Stations

Important note

We have made every effort to provide as complete an overview as possible of the current providers in the market. It is possible that some parties are not included in this list.

Are you a provider or do you work with a party that is missing from this overview? Please feel free to contact us. We will gladly ensure that these parties are also brought to the attention of our clients.

Conclusion

  • 1 July 2026 = start + immediate enforcement
  • Toll box mandatory = no exceptions
  • Not arranged in time = immediate consequences

Arrange this now. Not later.
