Denmark - Problems with Fines and the Possibility of Appeal

The situation regarding Danish fines remains problematic. Despite compliance with regulations, many transporters are still receiving unfair fines. At Transport in Nood, we have therefore decided to actively support you in filing objections against these unfair fines.

Denmark continues to impose fines despite objections

We have previously advised transporters to file objections themselves, hoping that Denmark would act differently than for example Belgium. Unfortunately, this has not been the case: objections are systematically rejected, and the fines continue to flow in. This once again demonstrates that the system is primarily focused on collecting fines, regardless of the circumstances.

Increased fine amounts and technical errors

Since 1th of January 2025, new rules and technologies have been implemented in Denmark, which are unfortunately not always reliable. Many fines are the result of technical errors over which carriers have no control. Still, the costs continue to rise, with fines of 4,500 DKK per day. The Danish parliament discussed a bill last Wednesday in its first reading to even double this amount to 9,000 DKK per day. This is concerning for transporters who comply with their obligations but are still fined due to errors. We advocate for a fair and proportional sanction that takes into account technical malfunctions and unintentional mistakes.
