Denmark introduces toll: System not functioning properly
Since the introduction of the new Danish toll registration portal for trucks, we have received many inquiries regarding its operation. It turns out that the system is not functioning properly, leading to fines. Our Danish partner estimates that around 4,000 fines have been issued so far, of which 300 have already been appealed.
This shows that the system has flaws, and many transport companies are receiving fines. It is important to note that all fines for violations before January 9th, which were appealed, have been cancelled after the appeal.
Automatic route selection in the Danish portal
When purchasing a toll vignette, it may happen that the truck has to deviate from the originally selected route. In the Danish portal, it is possible to manually adjust the route within 72 hours. However, be aware that the portal automatically selects the shortest route, which does not always match the actual or most suitable route.
Toll payment via OBU
There is also an option to purchase an On-Board Unit (OBU). With this OBU, the toll is automatically deducted from a linked credit card or on credit. At this moment, it is possible to obtain such a unit within 7 to 14 days. Need help choosing the right unit? Feel free to contact us!
Appeal options
If you have received a fine, you can file an appeal via the following page: https://vejafgifter.dk/en/objection/
Don’t forget to include your OBU ID (On-Board Unit) when submitting the appeal. The outcome heavily depends on the specific situation. We recommend first contacting your EETS provider to check whether the toll has indeed been paid.
